Our proposal for August 2011: Discover Lakes and Dales by “Classic Coaches”, 18th – 22nd August 2011

*18th August: Arrival at Manchester Airport, pick up by private modern bus. Arrival at the Black Swan, the final destination in Ravenstonedale.

Dinner: traditional English pub food.

19th August: Breakfast in hotel. Our classic coach will take you on a very scenic ride through the Lake District National Park with beautiful scenery of lakes and mountains. We will pass three lakes: Windermere, Rydal Water and Thirlmere. Starting at Ravenstonedale via Kendal, stopping in either Ambleside or Grassmere where you could visit Dove Cottage, home of the famous English poet William Wordsworth. Lunch in Grassmere. Passing between Thirlmere lake and Helvelyn mountain on to Keswick where you could have afternoon tea/shopping. Then return to Ravenstonedale which, depending on the time either quickly down the motorway or another scenic route via Appleby (could take in Castlerigg Stone Circle on the way home).

Dinner booked at 7.30 at the “Old Croft House”, typical English Georgian house, lovely decorated and with art deco flair inside. Don’t forget to take your own drink with you. They are not licensed to sell alcohol inside the restaurant.

20th August: Breakfast in hotel. Our classic coach will take you in a trip through the two National Parks: Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors. First visit will be Brough Castle. Proceeding to Richmond or Reeth for lunch and stopping for a guided visit on Bolton Castle where Mary Queen of Scots was held hostage for many years. On the way back, returning via Hawes we could stop for afternoon tea/ shopping then on again through the Mallerstang valley and back to Ravenstonedale.

Dinner booked at 7.30 at Cross Keys Cautley. Another Temperance restaurant, please don’t forget your own alcoholic drink. Here we will enjoy a typical English cottage atmosphere with a huge stone fire place and if the weather allows a terrific view of the waterfalls.

21st August: Breakfast in hotel. Our classic coach will take us on a scenic route to Rheged where we can see a film on a gigantic screen, shopping and taste local products. Then we will reach Glenridding where we will have a boat trip on Ullswater to Pooley Bridge (lunch on the boat could be arranged). Our bus will pick up us and take us on a visit to Dalemain House where we can visit the house and the beautiful garden (Dalemain house has a lovely café). Return either quickly down to the motorway or via a scenic route which could be decided upon on the day depending on timing. Also we will possibly stop in Orton at Kennedy’s chocolate shop where they produce delicious and various home-made chocolate items.

Dinner booked at 7.30 at the King’s Head, Ravenstonedale.

22nd August: Breakfast in hotel. Pick up with modern bus going to Manchester Airport. End of our holiday.
